Style: Poetry

Statement: A big trend on the internet currently is "girlhood" and for me it's about growing up, maturing and finding people who love you. Girlhood is setting aside differences to bond and be happy for others.

Girlhood is-

three other girls surrounding you

complimenting you 

telling you how beautiful you are

even if you know that

one doesn’t like you, is prettier than you, is smarter than you

it doesn’t matter

because they’re part of the Girlhood

and enough to lift your spirits

even if you aren’t sad

Girlhood is-

having a casual conversation 

and somehow talking about sad things

it’s wearing the same color

so we can match

asking your friend to read a book

so we can talk about it

so we can obsess over our favorite fictional characters

Girlhood is- 

explaining geometry problems

so we can learn together

it’s making your friends listen to a song

so we can scream the lyrics together

it’s teaching each other dance choreography

so we can dance together

Girlhood is-

always telling your friends when they look pretty

encouraging your friends to study

hoping to attend the same college one day

it’s planning each others’ weddings

it’s wanting to travel the world together

Girlhood is-

my mother sending me articles

even though I don’t read most of them

she sends me things that are meant to help me

and shows me that she cares

it’s my mother driving me to my friend’s house

when she bought me a book about biology

because she knew I was struggling

Girlhood is-

women 

teenage girls

little girls

supporting each other
