what you left for me

Style: Poetry

Statement: On friends graduating.

On the first week of June

On a clear blue-sky day

When you wake up with eagerness

And wear your fancy clothes,

You'll walk down the bright velvet carpet

Onto a perfect stage

And leave with a perfect piece of paper,

One with your perfect name on it

What you'll probably forget

Is that you've left me behind

Stuck with all the memories

Until I too walk down that red-carpeted aisle

In fancy clothes, the addition of high heels

Or I'll choose to rock your favorite Nike On the same day you left me two years ago

I don't know what in this city is left here for me

Because you'll be gone, this town will be bleak and rainy

And all the days will have lost its color

Why couldn't you have taken me with you?

Along with all of your books and all of your shoes?

In those moments, I'll have to remind myself

That you didn't really leave after all

You've left many things for me here

To remember you as I walk less in fear

Memories knickknacks and text messages

The sunshine on a foggy day

And hopes for the future

I'll grow up quickly, just you watch and see

Then I can finally say "Wait for me"

Because you won't really be gone

I can always see you, even if it's just in my head

Even if you forget everything and leave,

A part of you is etched on my heart’s sleeve

Because here on Earth with all our favorite memories,

There still exists what you left for me
